How Pakistan won

A shaky start. Gus Atkinson removed Fakhar Zaman with the first ball of the match. Saim Ayub, Babar Azam (34) and Salman Ali Agha, who made a hundred against Sri Lanka on Sunday, all fell early, and Pakistan were in trouble at 81-4.

The fightback. Hasan Nawaz hit his first ball, from Adil Rashid, for six. He shared fifty partnerships with Saad Baig (35) and Arafat Minhas. Arafat and Faheem Ashraf then added 72 off just 49 balls, and Pakistan scored 80 runs in the last eight overs. England dropped three catches; stand-in wicketkeeper Jordan Cox missed two of them, one off Arafat when he was on 12.

Arafat's spell. Duckett and Banton raced to 91 without loss. Haris Rauf removed Duckett, then Arafat had Banton caught at midwicket and bowled England captain Harry Brook for 5 with a ball that turned. Naseem Shah bowled Joe Root with one that kept low. Arafat then ran through the lower order and finished the match by running out Atkinson.

BBC Sport says these are the best figures by a Pakistan spinner in an ODI against England.

What England said

England captain Harry Brook said his side were "quite happy" chasing 300 because dew was expected. He said England lost "too many wickets in clumps" and were "a little too careful against the spinners". England are without Jos Buttler, Jofra Archer and Jacob Bethell for this series.
