- Pakistan won the opener against Sri Lanka by 37 runs on Sunday, defending 305 after Salman Ali Agha's 107 off 90 balls.

How Pakistan beat Sri Lanka
Salman Ali Agha, back in the side after being dropped from the Test team two months ago, scored his third ODI century, according to Dawn. He added 97 with Hasan Nawaz (37) after Babar Azam (45) and Saad Baig (39) steadied the innings. But Pakistan lost five wickets for 36 runs in the last five overs and were all out for 305 in 49.5 overs. Eshan Malinga took 4-46 for Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka slipped to 91-4 before Pavan Rathnayake and Janith Liyanage put on 119. With a slippery, dew-soaked outfield, the chase looked on track until two catches to Babar Azam at long-on, off Haris Rauf and Shaheen Shah Afridi, turned the game. Haris finished it by bowling Asitha Fernando. Shaheen took 3-55. The PCB named Salman player of the match.
England team news
England arrive as favourites, AP reported, after winning their last three bilateral ODI series, including 2-1 wins at home against India and Sri Lanka. Captain Harry Brook said Pakistan would test his side in ways it had not yet faced as an ODI team.
- Jos Buttler is out with a hamstring injury picked up in the second ODI against Sri Lanka at Headingley last month. Jordan Cox is expected to keep wicket.
- Jofra Archer has been rested; Sonny Baker has been added to the squad.
- Adil Rashid and Joe Root are in the squad.
AP also noted that Pakistan have never won a home ODI tournament with more than two teams since first hosting a tri-series in 1994.
