How the match went

India won the toss and chose to field. West Indies attacked from the start: Jewel Andrew and Hope put on 50 in just 3.3 overs, and the visitors were 79 for 1 after the powerplay — the joint-highest powerplay score against India in T20Is, according to Sportstar.

Hope reached his fifty in 28 balls. After Rovman Powell (24) fell, Sherfane Rutherford (49 not out off 26) joined Hope in an unbroken stand of 91 off 43 balls. Hope needed 10 runs from the last two deliveries for his century and got there with two sixes off Nitish Kumar Reddy.

India's chase

Chasing 248, Samson raced to India's 50 inside three overs and reached his own half-century in 20 balls. Paul then removed him and Ishan Kishan soon after. Captain Shreyas Iyer fell with India on 97 for 3.

Left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie struck twice in the 12th over, removing Abhishek Sharma (29) and stumping Naman Dhir first ball. Tilak Varma (43 off 25) and Nitish Kumar Reddy (41 off 20) added 72 off 32 balls to keep India in the hunt, but Paul's three wickets in the 19th over ended the chase. Arshdeep Singh retired hurt as the last batter.

What happens next

The fifth and final T20I in Bengaluru will decide the series. For India, the concern after Hyderabad is the bowling: West Indies scored at more than 12 an over, and Arshdeep's fitness will need checking after he retired hurt. For West Indies, Hope's form at the top — two centuries in four matches — has been the story of the tour.
