Key takeaways

  • Sahibzada Farhan stays third among T20I batters but reaches a career-best rating after his series against Sri Lanka, the ICC said on Wednesday.
  • Maaz Sadaqat climbs 187 places to 45th, from outside the top 100, after his 96 in the second T20I.
  • Salman Mirza rises nine places to 14th among T20I bowlers; Saim Ayub is second among all-rounders.
  • India's captain Shreyas Iyer moves up three places to a career-high fourth, so three Indians and one Pakistani now fill the top four.
  • Farhan's 238 runs in three matches set a record for a bilateral three-match T20I series between two Full Members, beating Abhishek Sharma's 229.

Pakistan's gains

Pakistan won the three-match series against Sri Lanka 2-1 in Rawalpindi, sealing it in the first two games before losing the final match by eight wickets on Tuesday. The rankings update reflects that series.

Player Category Movement New position
Sahibzada Farhan T20I batters Career-best rating 3rd
Maaz Sadaqat T20I batters Up 187 places 45th
Salman Mirza T20I bowlers Up 9 14th
Saim Ayub T20I bowlers Up 8 54th
Saim Ayub T20I all-rounders — 2nd

Dunya News also reports small drops for some Pakistan batters: Saim Ayub slipped four places to 42nd and Hasan Nawaz three places to 52nd among T20I batters. Sufiyan Muqeem fell three places to 53rd among bowlers.

Farhan's record series

Farhan made three half-centuries in a row against Sri Lanka, scoring 89, 73 and 76 for a total of 238 runs, according to the PCB. He was named player of the series. The ICC said this broke the record for the most runs in a three-match bilateral T20I series between two Full Members, previously held by India's Abhishek Sharma with 229 against Afghanistan earlier this year.

After the final match Farhan said his aim is "to stay consistent", adding that he becomes more focused when he is scoring runs.

The top of the list

India's Ishan Kishan (first) and Abhishek Sharma (second) remain ahead of Farhan. Shreyas Iyer's jump to fourth follows his maiden T20I century in the opening match of India's five-game home series against West Indies.

Other movers include Sri Lanka captain Kusal Mendis (up three to 23rd), West Indies' Sherfane Rutherford (up 13 to joint 24th) and India's Sanju Samson (up four to joint 27th). West Indies' Roston Chase rose to third among T20I all-rounders. Afghanistan's Rashid Khan still leads the bowlers and Zimbabwe's Sikandar Raza the all-rounders, Dunya News reports.

Test rankings in brief

Australia's 214-run win over South Africa in Durban lifted Matthew Renshaw to joint 49th among Test batters and Josh Hazlewood to seventh among bowlers after his career-best 6/49. Mitchell Starc remains the top Test bowler, but only four rating points ahead of New Zealand's Matt Henry.

What's next for Pakistan

Pakistan now switch to 50-over cricket: the ODI tri-series with England and Sri Lanka starts on Sunday, the PCB says. See our earlier post for the full schedule and squad.
