Trump endorses Netanyahu ahead of Israeli election
In one minute
US President Donald Trump has endorsed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu before Israel's October 27 election.
Key takeaways
US President Donald Trump has endorsed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu before Israel's October 27 election.
What happened
Associated Press and Axios reported the endorsement on October 18. It is a campaign intervention by the US president, not an election result. The two governments have disagreed over some regional policies; the endorsement does not by itself settle those differences.
Why it matters
The public backing may become part of Israel's campaign debate, but its effect on voters cannot yet be measured.
What to watch
Watch official election information and verified results after voting. Avoid assuming the endorsement determines the outcome.
